Lisa Garst for Salem City Council

If you elect me to City Council, I will listen and respond to your concerns. I will independently study and research the issues that come before City Council.  I will be diligent in my responsibilities and obligations to you.  I will take this job seriously and work on behalf of the Citizens of Salem and the best interests of the City of Salem.

Smart Growth for Salem
I want to help guide Salem to a path of smart, environmentally responsible growth. With limited available land, we must consider the best mix of housing, retail, and commercial uses, and we must provide adequate spaces for recreation and parks. I am committed to helping Salem maintain the character, sense of history, and uniqueness we cherish, as our community evolves and grows.

Support for Schools

When my daughter entered school, I was so impressed by the communication that existed between teachers, administrators and parents. The entire system is designed to be responsive to the needs and success of the children. I want to help Salem City Schools get the resources and attention they need to thrive.

Real Estate Tax Rate

I hope to work with Council to explore options for lowering the real estate tax rate while maintaining excellent services. With annual reassessments, Salem’s high tax rate can be a burden on homeowners and small businesses.

Commitment to Business

It’s important to attract the right kind of businesses to Salem – businesses that have the same values we hold fast. We must also support the existing base of businesses that have invested in Salem with the services and opportunities they deserve.

Citizen Involvement

Salem’s greatest asset is the people who live here. We are blessed with people who take pride in and support their community. I encourage everyone in Salem to follow and participate in local government.
